Meet the Doula...
I am a mother of two children and currently reside in the South Delta area. I am a birth and postpartum doula serving the areas of Tsawwassen, Ladner, Richmond, White Rock and Vancouver.
After a less than ideal first birth and rocky postpartum experience I was fearful to delve back into the world of childbirth and mothering. When I eventually became pregnant again I was determined to educate myself and use my knowledge to have my second birth be a redemptive experience. My educational journey led me to discover a strong love for the birth and postpartum world. I birthed my second baby peacefully and powerfully at home in the presence of my husband, three-year-old son and doula. This birth was a defining moment in my life. The impact my birth had on my postpartum experience was dramatic. This birth experience (along with my own birth doula) inspired me to want to help women feel powerful and supported in their births.
Six months later I completed my Wise Woman Way of Birth Doula Training. Birth sang to my soul! Since then I have completed several training's including the Douglas College Breastfeeding Course, The Motherwit Postpartum Doula Training, a Miscarriage and Abortion Support Training and obtained my Vaginal Steam Therapist Certification among others. I believe strongly that you, your body and your baby know best how to give birth. I believe that when left undisturbed birth works; it is not broken. I am confident that through proper education about how our bodies work and normalizing the birth process every person can safely follow their intuition to have a birth that leaves them feeling powerful and in control. My background in addictions counselling and personal experience with postpartum depression and anxiety allow me to truly empathize with and normalize the struggles that arise during the transition to parenthood. I am passionate about helping new parents to trust their instincts and feel confident as they discover their new roles and establish a new sense of normal. I deeply feel that everything starts with birth and that if we can change how we birth and how we support our precious new parents, we can change the world.
